Learn metal casting—used by sculptors for 7,000 years—through this introduction to foundry and mold-making practices. Working from simple positives (the original form of the desired casting), students learn one- and twopart sand molds, principles of furnace design, safe casting procedures, and metal finishing techniques. Students create at least one completed cast sculpture in aluminum.
