Saturday 10A–4P, Sunday 12–4P // With your basic drawing skills, in this class you will learn to use pastels, layering color on color to create volume in the face. Demonstrations will give you techniques for drawing the eyes, nose, and mouth. You will develop the features and proportions of the face by working from a model in each class. Learning the basics will enable you to explore your own style as you develop your practice. Some drawing experience is recommended.

In this class, we will learn his unique way of seeing space and color and create works based on his pool paintings, portraits, and landscapes. We will also use photography as a basis for exploring Hockney’s techniques for creating space.

6–9P // Thursdays // Explore the way sculpture can change our relationship to public, environmental, and interior space through a series of enjoyable, smallscale projects. Understand and explore scale by creating small sculptures as models for larger ideas. We will explore 3-D design principles and discuss modularity and scale while using traditional and nontraditional materials such as wood, paper, glass, string, brass, wire, and other mixed media. A final photography assignment will place these small-scale objects in an implied environment. This class is ideal for beginners as well as artists of all levels.

Kiln Carving

6–9P // Mondays // Learn how to use ceramic fiber paper to create layered images over which glass can be melted in a kiln in this fun class. The result is fantastic, transparent embossed imagery using only scissors and a craft knife. Complete project assembly during the workshop and, after firing, choose to “slump” (shape) the piece into a tray or other shape. No experience is required. 9A–12P // Saturdays // All skill levels are welcome. Through demonstrations and individual attention from the instructor, students will learn and create at their own pace. Beginners will be introduced to basic wheel-thrown shapes such as cylinders, cups, and bowls. Experienced potters will expand their skills and explore forms such as lidded jars and large objects. All students can enjoy making unusual shapes by cutting,stacking, and altering pieces to make anything from oval dishes to tulip vases. Surface finishes including underglaze decoration and soda firing are available in this class.
