Hannah Höch,a pioneer of the art form that became known as photomontage, used magazine and newspaper photos to create statements on the Weimar government in Germany in the 1920s. Now we can bring new meaning to our own photos and photocopies as Hoch did. Come join us and learn to create exciting and unusual statements with repurposed images!

Experiment with various methods of deconstructive and reconstructive 2-D collage, including cutting and tearing text and images from preprinted materials such as posters, magazines, sheet music, and books. Learn to incorporate additional media and techniques like rubbings, hand drawing, and painting in assignments exploring various sizes and limitations (e.g., building a collage using only text or only images).

Practice advanced mosaic cutting, layout and design techniques, and how to work with a variety of surfaces (both 2-D and 3-D).
